This book is in high demand. Approximately 5,000 first printings were produced. "FIRST EDITION" is stated on the copyright page (later printings are also stated as later printings). A first edition dust Jacket should have no statement of printing and should have a price of $3.95 on the lower corner of the front flap. First, second, and at least third printing dust jackets have a Truman Capote quote in green ink on the front flap. Book club copies have no first edition statement, nor do they have statements of printings. Book club books have cheaper bindings, and no price on the dustjacket.
Signed first printings of the first edition command the highest value. The second printing is also very rare and can fetch as much as $2,000. Book club and anniversary copies are common. A signed anniversary copy is worth approximately $200.
